Anil Kumble has joined the list of growing admirers of Rishabh Pant the dashing young Indian wicket-keeper batsman and has argued for his inclusion in the 50 over format. Rishabh Pant‘s success in Test cricket, after he came in as a replacement for Wriddhiman Saha, has been phenomenal in the past year. Pant blasted centuries against England and Australia and looks to have sealed his place in the longer format. However, Pant’s whose aggressive game is suited to the shorter format is not part of India’s 50 overs set up. M. S. Dhoni is currently wicketkeeping for India on 50 overs format. Rishabh Pant recently played for India A against England Lions in the 50 overs format and played a match-winning innings in the fourth one-dayer in Thiruvananthapuram.
As he returned to the Indian squad for the T20 series against New Zealand, Anil Kumble sparked a debate calling for the inclusion of the wicketkeeper-batsman in the 50 over format. “I feel Rishabh Pant is someone you need to test in the one day format. I know he played a few matches and he didn’t perform but that is in the past. He has done really well in Test match cricket with those hundreds and that’ll give him a lot of confidence, ” Anil Kumble reportedly said in the media.
