Yuvraj Singh, the southpaw from Punjab, announced his retirement from International cricket on Monday. The athletic cricketer managed 11,000 one day international runs and has taken part in 304 ODIs, 40 Test matches and 58 T20Is.
India’s 2011 world cup hero who was adjudged the player of the match in the tournament last played 2017 in a T20I match against England. India beat England by 75 runs.
Yuvraj played from the front and won two ICC titles for India in the last decade. He wanted to continue playing T20 cricket though. BCCI officials wanted to give him a farewell match, as given to all cricketers who retire from active cricket. But, Yuvraj declined the offer. He said, instead he is available for selections.
Yuvraj participated in 23 domestic seasons and will be remembered as one of the most powerful white ball cricketers.
Yuvraj had a lot of female following. He had dated a number of women, as they found him wanting of love always! He is the famous Mama’s boy who loved to be mothered by his girlfriends!
Finally, he found love in Hazel Keechand got married to her.
In the year 2007, during the ICC world cup match against England, Stuart Broad was the victim of Yuvraj Singh’s brutality with the bat! He hit English fast bowler Broad for 6 sixes in one over and smashed a record which is still intact.
The mighty left hander scored, 362 runs in the 2011 World cup of 50 overs and scalped 15 batsmen. He was definitely without any competition for the player of the tournament.
“After 25 years and almost 17 years of international cricket, I have decided to move on,” Yuvraj Singh’s famous last words. He continued, he never though he would last so long in his career and would have played 00 plus games for India. Thanks to the love of fans and worldwide cricket lovers, he continued to play.
Yuvraj, started his career in 2000 with the ICC Champions trophy against Kenya was a very valuable player throughout his career. His last one day game was in 2017 in an ODI against West Indies.
He fought cancer bravely and came back to Indian team and performed brilliantly. But, at times due to fitness concerns and runs being drained out of his willow, he was rested and ignored by the selectors!!
But, IPL games kept Yuvraj alive. He was part of the two winning sides of SRH , Hyderabad. Also this year’s IPL 2019 he was part of Mumbai Indians, the winners!
Indian cricket fans still reminisce the fact that in the NatWest trophy finals at Lord’s he formed a 121 runs partnership with Mohammad Kaif and blasted 69 runs and India lifted the trophy. This match is also famous for the famous act of removing his shirt and waving form the Lord’s balcony….none other than the then Captain…Saurav Ganguly!!
However, Yuvraj Singh will be missed by cricket lovers worldwide. He has a great future as a commentator and coach, mentor or IPL teams etc. Youngsters will have a lot to learn from him!
